Malaga The province has many hidden treasures, if somewhat blighted by the Costa del Sol´s image of mass tourism; its' coastline, highly developed with booming resorts and teeming with sun worshipers. Don’t be put off. Malaga is much more than this stretch of sun baked beaches, there are many pockets of Malaga, less known and unspoilt, well worth discovering.

To the east, where the mountains grow closer to the sea, the coastline retains its natural beauty; lapped by the clear turquoise Mediterranean, all secluded bays and sandy beaches with a stunning mountain backdrop. Even on the more developed western coastline, in such resorts as Marbella, spectacular properties set high above the sea, offer magnificent coastal vistas and access to private beaches, with the added bonus of the option of water sports, tennis and golf in the resorts themselves, if desired. The regional food is a delight here, with fresh seafood a must, to be sampled in the popular beachside lean-to bars (known as, chiringuitos) or marine-side restaurants.

Wander through the old centre of Malaga City, which houses the recently inaugurated Picasso Museum, the Alcazaba (fortress), and the Cathedral. Dine in the lively tapas bars accompanied by the strum of a flamenco guitar and sample local wines in local bodegas. Directly north of Malaga city, near the historic city of Atequera explore the National Parks of Torcal de Antequera and los Montes de Malaga or hand-glide in Valle del Sol.

Venture a mere 20km inland from the Costa and encounter a complete change in atmosphere and landscape. A dramatic coastal mountain landscape reveals rolling countryside and Moorish hilltop towns and villages prettily dot the landscape. These "pueblos blancos", with their distinctive white-washed buildings and windy cobbled streets set in spectacular scenery, are the architectural jewels of this province.
