Granada The province surprises and delights the senses with its diverse geography and scenery, fascinating history and appetizing climate. In the North-East explore the caves of the dusty plains of Guadix, fish in trout rivers below pine covered mountains, or bathe in natural hot springs.

In the West, savour the contrast of silver and red as the mountains reveal row upon row of silvery leaved olive trees, a beautiful contrast to the terracotta soil. Here and there small towns and dusty villages spring to view, like jewels in the haze of the sun. South-East, the Sierra Nevada, snow-covered for at least half the year and boasting the highest peak in mainland Spain, is an ideal location for all mountain sports. High on its southern slopes are the "lost villages" of the Alpujarras - well worth the "four-wheel" drive.

Below the Sierra Nevada lies the magical and historical City of Granada, the last Moorish (Muslim) Capital in the Iberian Peninsula. This magnificent City´s "Must-Sees" are the Alhambra Palace (one of the Great Wonders of the World) and the Albaicin (ancient Arab Quarter) sited on opposite hills and with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and each other. Leading southward to the coast, country roads take you past shady aromatic pine forests giving way to chestnut, walnut and cherry trees, unveiling terraces of almonds, olive and citrus groves and vines, as well as scatterings of pomegranate, fig and avocado trees in the valleys below.

The Tropical Coastline with its palm fringed beaches and clear water is a perfect location for all water sports and encompasses Almuñecar, the horse-shoe bay of Bahia de la Herradura, and Salobreña, all worth visiting. Throughout the year Granada celebrates holidays and festivals with unabating energy. The sizzling heat of July and August generally forces a slower pace, but there´s always something going on for those with more stamina.
